Budget talks continue at City Council work session tonight

galesburgGalesburg City Council members still have an ever fluctuating $800,000 budget deficit on their hands–a number they will continue to tackle in tonight’s work session.

Earlier this year, aldermen proposed funding fire and police pensions about $1.1 Million less than the city’s recommendation, yet a significant financial hole still remains.

Council members are expected to continue looking at reduction methods tonight.

Also on tonight’s agenda includes a continued discussion of the city’s capital improvement plan. The plan will prioritize infrastructure projects around town. Council members passed the capital utility tax in July and money from that will be used to fund the projects.

In last month’s work session, Council approved going ahead with a $10 Million bond issue to do the work.

Water and refuse rates and city revenues and fees will be discussed tonight as well. Council meets inside the Erickson Conference Room at City Hall this evening at 5:30.
