Rural Knox County crash leaves one injured

sheriffA Gilson man allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and rammed a power pole early this morning in rural Knox County.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Department was called to a single vehicle crash on 1000 North just West of Highway 18 at 12:10 a.m.

According to Captain Dave Caslin, 25-year-old Cameron J. Jewell was found unresponsive after an Ameren employee responded to the area to deal with a power outage.

Life Flight en route from Peoria arrived at the scene, but was cancelled when Jewell awoke and was able to speak with medical personnel.

Jewell was transported to Methodist Hospital in Peoria where he remains. The severity of his injuries are unknown, however they are not believed to be life threatening.

BYE Ambulance Service, the Yates City Fire Department, and Ameren all assisted at the scene. Power has been restored to the area, and an investigation into the crash continues at this time.
