Senator Weaver tours the 37th district

ChuckWeaver-FULLOn the heels of his first senate meeting last week, Republican Senator Chuck Weaver has been making the rounds of the 37th District.
The former Peoria City Councilman tells WGIL he’s been busy meeting with constituents.

“As of the day of my appointment,” Weaver says, “I’ve been to 135 face-to-face visits around the district.”

Weaver says the visits have been fruitful, adding that some meetings were with people outside his district.

When asked how last Tuesday’s senate meeting went, he said he wished he was “voting on a budget, but otherwise (it went) well.”

Speaking further on the four-month budget impasse, Weaver says Governor Bruce Rauner is trying to get ahead of recent problems, such as Moody’s downgrade of Illinois bonds last Thursday.

“He understands that our state is not business friendly and what comes from that is insufficient employment and what comes from that is insufficient revenue for the state and what comes from that is a poor bond rating,” Weaver says. “That’s what this whole budget impasses is about, is that the Governor is asking for some serious reform to how our state looks at business and his desire to make our state more business friendly.”

Weaver says the other big issue people should expect him to talk more about is Illinois jobs.
