State Secretary of Education tours area schools

Knoxville High SchoolIllinois Secretary of Education Beth Purvis spent this morning and afternoon visiting area schools on a bus tour of small and rural education facilities.

While at the recently constructed, $32 million Knoxville High School, Purvis told WGIL she was impressed by not only the facility, but the quality of education throughout the area.

“It’s really exciting to go into schools and see the focus that the kids have,” Purvis said. “I mean, the engagement the innovation that’s going on in the schools. We have really engaged students and incredibly happy and proud adults and that speaks a lot about the culture and climate that these superintendents and their principles are putting together.”

Regional Superintendent of Schools Jodi Scott, who helped put the tour together, said Purvis and the bus-full of superintendents had made several stops before arriving at the Knoxville High School in the early afternoon.

“We started out at West-Central School District,” Scott said, “and then we went to Monmouth-Roseville — we went to the Roseville campus — and then we went to Abingdon-Avon — we went to both of the school in Abingdon — and then we went to Mable and then here.”

Before returning to the bus, Purvis said she thought most superintendents in the state would be “very envious” walking through the doors of the Knoxville High School.
