Volunteers create Orpheum Theatre commercial

1027151910f~2With the help of Railway Picture Studios owner Doug Alderman and about 40 local actors, the Orpheum Theatre is in the process of crafting a commercial made for social media.

Filming started Monday and wrapped up today. Orpheum Executive Director Kevin Maynard says all those involved are volunteering their time and talents to make the commercial possible.

Maynard tells WGIL the footage will start with a 1948 starlet stepping out a vehicle and stepping into the Kellogg Street theater.

“She walks in the lobby, and the camera will kind of change perspectives to different people,” Maynard says. “There’s a little girl who is looking up at the chandelier spinning, and then it moves over to the ticket office, then to the concession stand where they’re getting some concessions, then it kind of goes up to the mezzanine and you see out toward the stage and then it goes up to the balcony. You see a spotlight operator, somebody fixing a light the stage manager calling cues back stage. So it kind of bounces through everything.

Maynard says it will end with girls dancing on stage and finally a blank stage that will allow for details of the theater’s next show to be “slotted in.”

The footage will be pared down to a 2-minute version for social media and a 30-second version to potentially be used as a TV commercial.

The final product is expected to be complete November 20th in time to introduce “Miracle on 34th Street.”
