Housing Authority continues renovations, pleased with changes

12-30-14 Knox County Housing AuthorityThe Knox County Housing Authority is moving on with renovation work at a number of its facilities.

The Board of Commissioners met yesterday and received an update on the projects, which KCHA Executive Director Derek Antoine says are all going well.

A $99,000 window replacement project at Prairieland townhouses has had progress since last month. Brian Waldon Construction is installing 264 new windows at the facility. Antoine says about three buildings have been completed.

He tells WGIL, that the work is making quite the impression.

“It’s a night and day difference,” says Antoine. “They look great. The windows are operating well and we have had several tenant compliments as far as interior temperatures and things like that all showing an improvement with the addition of the new windows. Everything is going well out there and we are very pleased.”

The project is expected to be finished next month.

Other projects discussed yesterday included an update on work at Moon towers. Antoine says building addresses have now been installed, and the installation of property signs are about six to eight weeks out now.

The board approved a nearly $60,000 payment for plumbing work yesterday as well. Moon and Bluebell towers are undergoing sprinkler installation and water heater replacement is taking place at Moon.

The first payment of $44,000 for the $193,500 exterior renovation project taking place at Brentwood Manor also got the OK during yesterday’s meeting.
