Local paranormal group search for spooks nationwide

Paranormal groupWhile some may see Halloween as the time for ghost stories, others are investigating the paranormal year round.

Locally, a group of paranormal researchers make their way across the country multiple times per year to try communicate with the dead.

Becky Conner, Co-Founder of the Paranormal Research Group of Mid-Illinois, says her group of seven to eight researchers have travelled to the Gettysburg Battlefield, the Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky, and the Ohio State Reformatory in search of responses.

TV shows like Ghost Adventures have made paranormal interest popular, but Conner says she’s been interested since she was a little girl.

The afterlife communicator tells WGIL, that the shows can be fairly unrealistic, but they have done some good.

“Do we go in and scream at ghosts and do things like that? No,” Conner says. “Really we were interested before the shows, but I guess one thing I am thankful for is that the TV shows did bring it more to mainstream where people aren’t embarrassed to say, ‘hey, I’m a paranormal researcher.'”

Conner adds that the sense of community and historic education experienced during the trips is a big draw as well. The group was founded in 2012 and have members from Galesburg, Knoxville, Rio and other area municipalities.

Upcoming investigations in the works include visits to St. Louis and return trips to Gettysburg and the Vallisca Axe Murder House in Iowa.
