Bowles, DoloresDolores E. Bowles, 78, of Galesburg, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015, in Seminary Manor.

She was born February 28, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of John and Emma (Fowler) Baker. She married Thomas E. Bowles on June 12, 1955 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death August 5, 2002.

She is survived by two sons, Scott Bowles of Bloomington, Illinois and Skipper (and Brianna) Bowles of Macomb, Illinois; three daughters, Shelley (and Randy) Labak of Seattle, Washington, Sherry (and A.J.) Williams of Louisburg, North Carolina, and Susan (and Randy) Garcia of Inverness, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a lifelong friend, Ann Purlee of Galesburg. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Goeltzenleuchter; and her beloved dog, Minnie.

Dolores was raised in Ohio until the age of 12 when her family moved to Galesburg. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1955. She had worked as a bookkeeper at Western Zero Locker and Ice Plant for 18 years, as a secretary at First Christian Church for 13 years, and as a cook’s helper at Lombard Middle School for 18 years. She retired in February 2011.

Dolores was raised in the Methodist faith as the granddaughter of Rev. Elmer Fowler, who was the founder of EUB Church in Galesburg, now known as Faith United Methodist Church. She was a longtime attendee of services and Sunday school at First Church of God.

Dolores was a charter member of the Galesburg Sweet Adelines. She loved animals and regularly donated needed items to the Knox County Humane Society.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2015, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel with Rev. Dennis McQuown officiating. Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Dolores’ name may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.   Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
