Galesburg Chamber fires executive director

stevebrody-headshot-150x150(UPDATED 5:53 p.m., Oct. 30.) Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce Chairman Dave Pearson confirmed Steve Brody is no longer the chamber’s executive director.

Pearson says the decision was made yesterday during a regular Chamber Board meeting.

He did not comment on why Brody was let go, citing only personnel matters.

A flabbergasted Brody tells WGIL he does not believe the decision was made due to performance, adding that he raised chamber enrollment and righted a $20,000 to $30,000 debt after starting in 2012.

“The board voted to terminate my employment effective immediately,” Brody says, “and I was completely shocked and surprised. I didn’t see it coming, there was no warning, there was nothing ever written, like I needed to change something. I asked if there was a reason. They wouldn’t give me a reason.”

Pearson says the executive director duties will be handled by two “long time” employees until a replacement is found.

Brody says he filed for unemployment today, reasserting that he has no clue what could have led to the sudden layoff.

“There’s something else that drove this,” he says.

Pearson says a search firm will be used to find a new executive director following a “cooling off period.”
