GHS North has highest district graduation rate in two decades

District 205’s credit recovery school is making a difference and the numbers show it.

Principal Jason Spring told Galesburg Live on WGIL yesterday that in their seventh year of operations they have the highest graduation rate in the district in over two decades.

“This is my fifth year as Principal, and over the last six years we’ve graduated 240 kids–the kids that we graduate make up about 15% of the district’s graduation rate,” says Spring. “Just yesterday (Friday) we found out that our graduation rate for 2015 was 86.4 %, which is the highest we’ve had over 20 years in District 205. We’re doing great work. What a tremendous place GHS North is.”

North is a credit recovery school which officially opened its doors under that name in Fall of 2009. 90 students are currently enrolled at the alternative institution.

Counselor Amy Gugliotta says the goal of the school goes a lot further than just graduation.

“We’ve really started to hit home the importance of going to college, getting vocational training or an associates degree,” says Gugliotta.

Gugliotta says every student completes an application to Carl Sandburg College and fills out a FAFSA.
