Rainbow Riders Saddle Up for Fundraiser

Riding for a cause is something Rainbow Riders in Monmouth has been doing for some time now, and next weekend they will be holding a benefit in support of their programming.

The riders are celebrating 10 years this year. The group is a horseback riding organization that offers therapeutic riding for individuals with special needs.

Program Director Karen Angotti says that a decade’s worth of work has really been able to show the community the importance of therapeutic riding–something many didn’t really understand when the group started out.

She tells Galesburg’s Evening News on WGIL, that getting the right horse is vital for the rider.

“It’s the horse that provides for the rider, and it provides in many different ways,” says Angotti. “It all depends on what the riders need are, whether it be learning in a cognitive way, with small motor skills, large motor skills, coordination. Sometimes it’s just learning how to be patient.”

Food, live music, a 50/50 raffle and silent auction will all be on hand for the upcoming fundraiser. The event is being held at the Monmouth VFW Hall Saturday, November 7th. Doors open at 5 p.m. and entertainment will last until 10 p.m.
Angotti says all of the proceeds will go toward programming next summer.
