DeSutter announces candidacy for 74th District

A Woodhull farmer will join the race for the 74th district seat being vacated by longtime State Representative Don Moffitt.

Mike DeSutter is expected to become the third candidate to run, following announcements made by Rio Farmer Wayne Saline and Henry County’s Dan Swanson.

DeSutter declined an interview with WGIL. According to his website, he’s the current Board President of West Central FS, an OSF St. Mary Hospital board member, as well as a member of various agricultural entities.

DeSutter has also served on the AlWood and Costa Catholic Academy school boards, and as the Woodhull-Alpha Jaycees President.

In a press release, the Woodhull man says “our state is in need of conservative thinking in Springfield.” DeSutter feels he can use “experiences as a father, community member and a farmer” to help make the district and State of Illinois a better place.

Campaign points listed include passing a conservative budget, reforming school funding, and building what he calls a “jobs-creating environment.”

DeSutter will make an official announcement outside the Knox County Courthouse Thursday at 3:15 p.m. Other announcements are being made in Aledo, Cambridge, and Princeton.
