Landscape Amendments move to council chambers tonight

Galesburg City Council members will take their first look at potential changes to the city’s landscaping regulations tonight.

Last month, Planning and Zoning Commission members voted 4-2 to pass amendments along to the council.

If council approves, changes would be made to fencing regulation, it would eliminate landscape plan requirements, and remove some regulation in regard to buffering and screened parking.

New developments, such as businesses, would now only be required to submit a rough landscape sketch.

That sketch would be used to ensure compliance with corner lots and right-of-way regulation.

City Manager Todd Thompson has recommended aldermen pass the changes. The measure is on first read.

Meanwhile, city rates and fees, and a change in various fees at Bunker Links will be on the agenda tonight as well.

Council meets tonight in City Hall at 6:30 p.m.
