2 dead, including toddler, in northern Illinois house fire

ROSCOE, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a father and his toddler son are dead and three other family members were injured in a house fire in the northern Illinois village of Roscoe.

The Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department says the two victims were found in a first-floor bedroom after the fire began early Friday. The Winnebago County Coroner’s office identified them as 2-year-old Orin Bekielewski and his father, Alan Bekielewski. Autopsies are pending.

The three other family members were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.

The fire burned a large hole in the home’s roof.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation. The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene.

Roscoe is near the Illinois border with Wisconsin, about 20 miles north of Rockford.
