Peoria marijuana dispensary tied up by zoning dispute

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — A proposed medical marijuana dispensary in Peoria has hit a snag over zoning that has delayed its opening.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports Trinity Compassionate Care Centers has an upcoming hearing before the Zoning Board of Appeals.

At issue is whether the dispensary’s zoning certificate is still valid. City officials say the business didn’t start operating in time and its certificate has expired.
The business’ owners, however, say the city approved the facility for occupancy four days before the certificate expired.

Peoria County Circuit Judge James Mack recently issued a preliminary injunction that prevents the city from taking action against the dispensary.

Elsewhere in Illinois, legal medical marijuana sales are expected to start Monday at other possibly eight licensed dispensaries.
