Dennis, MarkW. MARK Dennis, 82, of Galesburg passed away at 1:15 AM on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Seminary Manor, in Galesburg after a brief illness.

He was born on July 17, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Wayne and Juanita (Bowerman) Dennis.  He was married to Lynda Sweborg of Knoxville and Connie Thurman of Galesburg.  They preceded him in death.

Mark moved to Galesburg as a teenager and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1953.  He was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1953 to 1955.  He worked at O.T. Johnson’s selling furniture and appliances until the store closed, owned the Little King on Main Street and, in later years, worked at Lindstrom’s TV and Appliance.

Mark had a larger-than-life personality and enjoyed making everyone around him laugh.  He made friends everywhere he went and no one was ever a stranger. He loved classical music and good food.  Mark delighted friends and family with his ability to tell a story like no other.  He was beloved by all who knew him.  He was a proud and loving father and grandfather.  His loss will be felt by many.

Surviving are his four children; daughter Eryn (Tom) McCulloch of Spokane, WA, daughter Kelly Dennis of Hyattsville, MD, daughter Shelby (Kevin) Jones of Abingdon, and son Tony Dennis of Mesa, AZ.  He is also survived by his brother Wayne Dennis of Galesburg, sister Carolyn Walker of Pekin, brother Steven Dennis of Wilkes, NC, brother Craig Wille of Macomb, Illinois, sister Tammy Cunningham of Winnebago, Illinois, and sister Lisa Calvert of Evansville, Indiana.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary (Mickey) Dennis.

A Celebration of Life will be held next spring.  The family requests that donations be made to Hospice Compassus in lieu of flowers.
