Judge to consider request to toss suit opposing Lucas Museum

CHICAGO (AP) — City of Chicago attorneys are asking a judge to toss a lawsuit seeking to stop “Star Wars” filmmaker George Lucas from building a $400 million museum on the shores of Lake Michigan.

That request is the focus of a Tuesday hearing in Chicago federal court. It’s unclear if the judge will rule on Tuesday.

The nonprofit Friends of the Parks filed the lawsuit. It argues the museum will violate the public trust because it’ll be built on reclaimed land that was once Lake Michigan.

Plans call for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art to go up near Soldier Field. If all goes according to plan, it could open as soon as 2019.

Lucas’ choice of Chicago for the museum was considered a coup for Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
