‘Political Breakfast Club’ attends Noon Kiwanis Club Pancake Day

The most recent Republican candidate to throw his hat in the ring for a seat in the 74th District house was enjoying a pancake breakfast fundraiser for the Noon Kiwanis Club today with elected officials.

Woodhull farmer Mike DeSutter sat with newly appointed Republican Senator Chuck Weaver and Republican State Reps. Norine Hammond and Don Moffitt.

DeSutter is currently gathering signatures for his campaign to run for Moffitt’s soon-to-be vacated seat.

He tells WGIL being among the elected officials and the community is valuable.

“As a newcomer to politics, I’m learning that it is very important to be out and amongst the people,” DeSutter says. “So, one, you get to know them and two, if they have issues or anything, they can address them to you so you know what the community and the district is thinking. So, it’s very important that we do things like this to get out amongst the people.”

DeSutter will be running against Republicans Wayne Saline and Dan Swanson as well as Democratic candidate Bill Butts.

Also in attendance at the breakfast was attorney Jeremy Karlin, a democrat running for Knox County State’s Attorney.

Pancake Day Chairman Mike Wiegand says he appreciates the support from from business leaders, government officials and the general public.

“The more you get the word out, the better it is,” Wiegand says.

The morning Pancake Day served about 260 people and Wiegand says he hopes for another 400 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. About $5,700 was raised as of this afternoon.
