Landscape regulations, parking issues back on council agenda tonight

Galesburg City Council members will likely make a decision regarding potential changes to landscape regulations tonight.

Last meeting, various council members asked for more information before making any decision.

The original proposal called for the removal of a long landscape plan that requires businesses and developers to produce plans through a landscape architect or other professional. Aldermen have questioned whether or not too much enforcement is being given up in lieu of loosening restrictions.

Council is expected to find the balance tonight.

Another item on tonight’s agenda is a response to parking complaints that have been made in regard to spaces downtown. Council documents indicate two-hour parking signs at specific locations on Main Street could be the proposed solution.

A number of downtown business owners voiced their concerns about ample parking last month in a town hall style meeting.

Council meets tonight at 6:30 p.m in City Hall.
