Sangamon County GOP seeks applicants for Rep. Poe’s seat

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Republican officials in Sangamon County are looking for a replacement for longtime state Rep. Raymond Poe.

GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner last week appointed Poe to be the next director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

Poe is a Republican from Springfield who served in the Illinois House for 20 years.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports candidates interested in being appointed to Poe’s seat have until Wednesday to apply.

Rosemarie Long is chairwoman of the Sangamon County GOP. She’s called a meeting for Thursday where the central committee will establish a selection committee to choose Poe’s replacement.

Candidates must be at least 21, U.S. citizens and registered to vote. They also must have lived in the 99th House District for at least two years.
