U.S. Reps. sign on to ease Cuban trade restrictions

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos and Congressman Rodney Davis are announcing bi-partisan support for a bill that would give Illinois agriculture more opportunity for trade with Cuba.

If the Cuba Agricultural Exports Act passes it would repeal restrictions on U.S. AG producers access to marketing and financing in Cuba.

Davis and Bustos recently made a three day agricultural trade mission to Cuba. Both are now expressing that Illinois producers have been hurt by barriers to marketing programs in Cuba that the Department of Agriculture assists with in other nations.

The Illinois Cuba Working Group says that the last six years have seen a 63% decrease in Cuban soy and corn exports from Illinois.

Next week Bustos will travel across the 17th district to meet with farmers and business leaders to discuss the bill and what she learned on her trip.
