Coleman, MorrisMorris Coleman Sr., 87, of Galesburg, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.He was born March 14, 1928, in Georgiana, Alabama, the son of R.C. and Zora (Hurbert) Coleman. He married Corine Faison on December 14, 1946 in Alabama, Juanita Ward in 1964 in Galesburg, and Patricia M. Duncan on February 14, 1992 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three sons, Steve Coleman of Galesburg, William Coleman of Iowa, and Howard “Skip” Duncan III of Galesburg; five daughters, Debra (and Benny) Reynolds of Arizona, Stephanie (and Paul) Randolph of Indiana, Kathie Duncan of Pennsylvania, Davonne Duncan of New Jersey, and Tara Duncan-Main of Galesburg; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Dorris Coleman of Kansas City and Horace Coleman of Galesburg; and two sisters, Ola Mae Cunningham of Galesburg and Frances Bailey of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Morris Jr., Charles, and Ronald “Rondoo” Coleman; a daughter, Sherry Coleman; three brothers, Henry Coleman, Jimmy Coleman, and Wilbur Owens; and two sisters, Nora Mae Hurbert and Louise Britton.

Morris had worked at Louis Lakis Ford in Galesburg for 18 years.   He also worked at Butler Manufacturing for 47 ½ years, retiring in 1995. He was a member and Senior Deacon of Bethesda Baptist Church for over 50 years.   Morris offered himself to his community to give prayers and to do God’s work. The African American Affairs recognized and honored Morris for his community service with a Tribute of Appreciation.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Galesburg.   Rev. Toby Carlos will officiate.   Morris’ daughter, Rev. Debra Reynolds, will offer the eulogy. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with the family present beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.
