Gill, Brogdon power No. 6 Virginia to 82-57 win

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Anthony Gill scored 16 points, Malcolm Brogdon had 13 and No. 6 Virginia bounced back from its first loss of the season with an 82-57 victory over at the Charleston Classic on Thursday night.

The Cavaliers (2-1) fell at George Washington on Monday and opened this one a bit sluggish as if still dealing with that loss and trailed 22-19 in the opening half. That’s when Virginia took off on an 18-3 run to put the game away.

The demolition continued in the second half as the Cavaliers stretched the lead to 31 points.

Virginia will face Long Beach State here Friday night for a spot in Sunday’s championship game.

The Braves (1-2) are one of the youngest teams in the country, starting four freshman against the ACC powerhouse. Eventually, the Cavaliers experience took control.

Luuk Van Bree had 16 points, off four 3-pointers to lead Bradley.
