First snowfall blankets Knox County, four to six inches expected

The first snowfall of the season has arrived in Knox County and the latest forecast is anticipating four to six inches of accumulation before it’s all over.
The wintry downfall is expected to taper off by about 1 p.m. today. Currently, the City of Galesburg and the City of Monmouth are both under snow emergencies.

In a press release, Galesburg City Engineer Wayne Carl says an automatic parking prohibition is in place for all city streets. With the exception of downtown parking, vehicles on streets are subject to ticket and tow.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect in Mercer and Henry counties and a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect in Knox, Warren, and Henderson counties. Both will last until about noon.

National Weather Service meteorologist Bruce Sullivan told the Associated Press, that heavy totals came in Marengo overnight.The city about 65 miles northwest of Chicago got 12 inches and snow is still falling.

Snow is expected to continue today throughout parts of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan but the front will move into Canada by tomorrow.
