Cottage named National Top Performer

An area hospital recently received a national distinction for their work.

Galesburg Cottage Hospital was named a top performer by the Joint Commission–a national health care accreditation agency.

According to the Commission, Cottage was recognized for their performance improving care for conditions such as heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and immunization.

This is the fourth time they have been chosen for the award.

In a press release, Cottage CEO Barry Schneider says GCH has “made a commitment to accreditation and to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based processes.”

In order to receive the accolade, two thresholds of more than 95 percent had to be met. Cottage reportedly performed above that mark for a number of measures.

The hospital employs 70 medical staff and has been in existence in Galesburg more than 120 years.
