Frosty temps can’t keep Christmas parade from stepping off

There were more red noses than just the one guiding Santa’s sleigh at today’s Christmas parade.
Estimates of about 6,000 lined the six block parade route from the corner of Chambers and Main to the Knox County Courthouse.

Only about 10 of the 65 parade participants that were signed up stayed at home but the most important member of the festivities arrived on schedule.

Santa Claus needed help from firefighters to get down from where he landed atop First Mid Illinois Bank but was in place at the end of the parade to officially kick off the holiday season.

Parade organizer, Dennis Case told WGIL that crisp air wasn’t enough to keep people away from an event that brings the community together.

“It gets people into the Christmas and Holiday season. People just enjoy a parade altogether, no matter what the parade is. Everybody loves a parade but the Christmas parade is special just because of the time of season that it is.”

This is Case’s 15th year organizing the parade, which he says has seen far worse weather than what parade-goers shouldered today.
