Abingdon man accused of child abuse

knox county courthouseAn Abingdon man is moving toward trial after a Knox County judge found probable cause Monday in his child abuse case.

Twenty-six-year-old Ryan A. Swank stands accused of two counts aggravated battery of a child. One count is filed as a Class X felony worth up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

According to court documents, the state alleges Swank grabbed the arm of an infant, causing a supracondylar humerus fracture. The incident was reported August 19th and charges were filed Nov. 3.

During Swank’s Monday court appearance, Judge Thomas Ewing found probable cause in the case and denied a request to reduce the defendants’ bond from $200,000.

Swank has entered a plea of not guilty and demand for jury trial.

He remains in the Knox County jail on $200,000 bond. Swank’s next court appearance is set for a pretrial conference at 9 a.m. Feb. 1.

He is defended by Attorney Chuck Bretz.
