Silas Willard move coming ahead of schedule

silas construction 2Students and teachers of Silas Willard Elementary didn’t expect to move into their newly constructed school until the beginning of the next school year.

When students return on April 4th, they’ll be walking into a 20 million dollar facility that broke ground last October.

The date was moved up to ensure construction would be completed by the next school year to avoid students having to play and walk around dangerous equipment in the fall.

A playground and fencing will not be ready April but fifth graders who didn’t think they would ever be in the school will at least have a few months.

Silas Principal, Tiffany Springer tells WGIL there are host of projects that are being worked on but she’s been impressed by everyone’s effort in preparation.

“The beautiful thing is that architects, engineers, and Russell (Construction) have really worked to make sure that this is seamless,” Springer says. “As one crew finishes a wing, the next crew comes in. I’ve just really been impressed by the construction crews.”

Currently, cabinets are being put in, walls are being painted and pavement is being laid.

Over the summer crews will finish asbestos removal and demolition of the old school.
