White Sox hire Rowand as minor-league instructor

White SoxCHICAGO (AP) –The Chicago White Sox have hired 2005 championship team center fielder Aaron Rowand as minor-league outfield and base-running instructor.A fan favorite because of his aggressive play, which led to occasional collisions with the wall, he played five seasons with the White Sox and was a key figure on the team that won it all.

Rowand hit .283 during his time in Chicago before being dealt to Philadelphia with pitcher Gio Gonzalez for Jim Thome following the 2005 season. He hit .273 in an 11-year career with the White Sox, Phillies and San Francisco Giants. He was an All-Star with the Phillies in 2007 and helped San Francisco win a championship in 2010.

Rowand, who served as a guest minor-league instructor with the White Sox last spring, replaces Doug Sisson.
