Monmouth couple faces 31 combined charges in forgery case

knox county courthouseA Monmouth couple appeared in Knox County Circuit Court today on multiple charges stemming from the financial exploitation of an elderly relative.

Assistant State’s Attorney Jon Schlake said 35-year-old Joshua A Brown and his 28-year-old girlfriend Lindsey K. Goudy are accused of stealing about $40,000 from Brown’s grandmother.

The state filed 12 charges against Brown, including six counts of forgery, alleging the suspect had forged his grandmothers signature for multiple purchases between March and September of this year.

Goudy faces 19 charges, 11 of which are forgery.

Forgery carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

During the couple’s appearance today, Judge Thomas Ewing agreed to lower Brown’s bond to $15,000 from $25,000. He remains in the Knox County jail awaiting a December 14th preliminary hearing.

Goudy was released on her own recognizance. Schlake says Goudy has a child she needs to be home to nurse.

Goudy also faces deceptive practices charges for a 2014 check fraud case.
