U of Illinois group looking for chancellor led by professor

URBANA, Ill. (AP) — A committee led by a history professor will help University of Illinois President Timothy Killeen in the search for a new chancellor for the flagship campus.

Killeen said this week that Antoinette Burton will chair the 15-member committee.

According to The News-Gazette, Burton has worked at the Urbana-Champaign campus for more than 15 years. She is the former head of the Department of History.

Phyllis Wise resigned as chancellor in August after a series of problems on campus. They included her use of private email to discuss university business, the recently settled lawsuit by a professor who lost a job offer over Twitter messages and allegations of mistreatment of athletes by coaches.

Interim Chancellor Barbara Wilson has said she is not a candidate for the job.
