City Parks and Rec. jobs combined under new director

Oligney-EstillThe City of Galesburg announced last week Anthony Oligney-Estill would take over for outgoing Parks and Recreation Director Larry Cox starting December 7.

Mayor John Pritchard confirmed Oligney-Estill will not only replace Cox, but will also replace retiring Galesburg Recreation Superintendent Roger Sensabaugh.

Pritchard said the city decided the two Parks and Recreation positions would be combined earlier this year as part of a restructuring of the departments.

The mayor tells WGIL combining the two departments makes sense for the city.

“I think the overall reorganization of Parks and Recreation into one department has allowed the opportunity to economize,” Pritchard says, “and to pick the person who has the skills in both parks and recreation.”

Oligney-Estill is an Indiana native who most recently served as Sports Manager for Champaign’s park district.

He graduated North Central College in Naperville with a Bachelor’s in finance and received his Masters in leisure studies from the university of Illinois.

Oligney-Estill holds over 20 years of professional experience in the field.

Joining Cox and Sensabaugh in retirement at the end of the year is Director of Community Development Roy Parkin.

Pritchard said Wednesday the process to find a replacement for Parkin has begun, but no further updates were available at the time.
