Police arrest stabbing suspect outside Cherry Street

galesburgpolicelogoGalesburg police arrested a Dahinda man Thursday morning as a suspect in the stabbing of another man outside Cherry Street Bar & Restaurant.

Officers found 24-year-old Jacob C. Johnson being held to a bench by a third party after 1 a.m. Thursday.

Witnesses said Johnson had stabbed the victim in the neck.

Johnson, who was described in police reports as “extremely intoxicated,” was taken to the ground and cuffed after initially resisting arrest by pulling away.

The suspect was charged with aggravated battery with a weapon and resisting a peace officer.

The victim was found near a Dumpster with a small laceration to the neck and blood on his neck and hands.

He told police he and Johnson were arguing prior to the stabbing.

Galesburg Hospitals’ Ambulance Service transported the victim to OSF St. Mary Medical Center for treatment. The injuries were not serious.

A blue utility knife with fresh blood on the blade was confiscated at the scene.
