Man tosses cocaine out window while fleeing police

galesburgpolicelogoGalesburg police arrested a man this weekend who when fleeing tossed around 16 grams of cocaine out the car window.

Christopher L. Mixon, a 32-year-old Galesburg resident, was about to be pulled over by police for not correctly using his turn signal, but he sped away at speeds in excess of 50 mph.

After several blocks Mixon got out of his car and ran to the front door of a house on the 700 block of West South Street, where officers grabbed him. The police observed the aroma of cannabis on Mixon.

When searching the car, police found a bag containing 10 grams of cannabis and $1,077 of crumpled cash in Mixon’s pockets.

In another yard several houses down, officers found several empty plastic baggies, which led them to several bags of a white powder strewn across the street, later tested as cocaine.

Police concluded that Mixon likely tossed the cocaine out the driver side window, since it was wide open on a chilly 31 degree evening.

Mixon was charged with possession of 16 grams of cocaine, 10 grams of cannabis and 1 count of speeding.
