Interview: Syria native Moussa Raei

We hear all kinds of reports from the government and media about the alleged civil war in Syria. Native Moussa Raei provided us with his opinions of what is going on.

Moussa Raei is a native of Syria who currently resides in Palm Springs, CA. His wife Amy is an Oneida native and R.O.V.A. High School graduate. Moussa disagrees with much of what we hear in the news and from our government regarding a civil war in his native country. We discussed his feelings and opinions on the WGIL Morning News.

Richard and Ashlee appeared on America’s Got Talent Wednesday night and moved on to the next round.

Richard Hankes is a Galesburg native. He has performed with numerous ballet companies and now performs with his fiancee Ashlee Montague. Their act includes strength and balancing. They auditioned for America’s got talent and were voted to move on to the second round on Tuesday night’s show. They joined us on the WGIL Morning News.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks are preparing for the State Meet this weekend.

The IHSA State Track and Field Meet takes place this weekend in Charleston @ Eastern Illinois University. The Galesburg Silver Streaks will be sending several athletes vying for a medal. GHS head coach Craig Hillier joined us on the WGIL Morning News to talk about the season and the upcoming state meet.

Run Galesburg Run returns to Galesburg for it’s 3rd year on Sunday, June 1st.

If you love to run, if you’re a novice or you just want to have some fun, Run Galesburg Run is an event for all skill levels. The event returns for a second year on Sunday, June 1st. You can participate in the Cottage Hospital Half Marathon, the Dave’s Auto Body/Go Outside and Play 5K or the Dave’s Gator Run, a 1 mile fun walk/run. Race organizers Dave Dunn and Nick Pigg joined us on the WGIL Morning News  to talk about the event.

The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team is heading to the NJCAA National Tournament.

The Chargers men’s golf team will play in the National Tournament for the second consecutive year. Head coach Ryan Twaddle is just off a trip to the men’s basketball National Tournament as well. Ryan joined us on the WGIL Morning News to talk about the season, the nationals, recruiting and a little basketball.

Chris Enroth of the U of I Extension talks about the emerald ash borer problem locally.

The emerald ash borer problem started in Michigan and is spreading throughout the midwest, including here in Knox County. Many trees have either died or been cut down locally due to the emerald ash borer. Chris Enroth of University of Illinois Extension talks about the problem locally and if there is any solution.

Libby Allison is the new co-anchor at WEEK-TV channel 25 in Peoria.

Libby is a Galesburg native who has returned to the area after anchoring at WVIR-TV in Charlottesville, VA since 2009. Prior to that, she was anchor at Fox 18 in the Quad Cities for 5 years. Libby is a graduate of Western Illinois University. She joined us on the WGIL Morning News.
