Peter Weber is a long time NHL color and play-by-play announcer with stops in LA, Buffalo and currently the television play-by-play announcer of the Nashville Predators. It all started here in Galesburg. He is a graduate of Costa and the University of Notre Dame. We talked with Pete about his journey as well as the NHL playoffs on the WGIL Morning News.
There was hope that the Silver Streak baseball and softball teams would get to play some home games this season. Mother nature decided not to cooperate and the decision was made collectively that the new facilities will not be ready before the end of the season. We talked about this as well as the other spring sports with GHS Athletic Director Ralph Henning on the WGIL Morning News.

Filming will begin soon on a new zombie movie with much of the shoot to take place in Galesburg. “Earth Day 2″ shooting locations include Sandburg Mall. Knox student Mickella Duffy-Webb and fraternity adviser Neil Unger joined us to talk about the annual Alpha Phi Omega Runathon on the WGIL Morning News.
The Knox College Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity holds a runathon for a local charity each year. This year’s event will take place May 2-May 3 from 3p-3p. The proceeds will benefit Blessings in a Backpack. Knox student Mickella Duffy-Webb is a sophomore elementary education major from Colorado Springs. She talks about her involvement with APO and the fraternities’ involvement in the community.
Galesburg High School graduate Chad Johnson joined us recently to talk about his pro baseball career.
Chad Johnson is a 2012 graduate of GHS. He played baseball and basketball for the Silver Streaks. Chad had a scholarship offer to play baseball at Illinois State but was drafted by the Kansas City Royals. He is currently playing catcher with their Class A affiliate, the Lexington Legends in Lexington, KY.
Kyle Hunter is a Galesburg native, 2008 GHS grad and current pitcher in the Seattle Mariners organization. He joined us on the WGIL Morning news.
Kyle played football and baseball for the Galesburg Silver Streaks. He was drafted out of high school by the Tampa Bay Rays. He decided to forgo professional baseball and accepted a scholarship to play in the Big 12 @ Kansas State University. He was drafted again by the Yankees and chose to stay with the Wildcats. Following his junior season at KState, he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners. He signed a contract and has steadily worked his was up the ranks. He is currently on a rehab assignment at the Mariners spring training facility in Peoria, AZ and may be assigned to Triple A Tacoma upon his release to play.
Galesburg native Julie Lindstrom worked on the set of “Draft Day”. We had the chance to chat with her about her experience on the WGIL Morning news.
Julie is a graduate of Galesburg High School, Knox College and graduate school at Northwestern University. She has done electrical work on numerous movie sets including her role as Best Boy Electric for the new Kevin Costner movie “Draft Day”.
We recently got to chat with former Cubs & Sox pitcher Steve Trout.
Steve Trout was in Galesburg recently for a pitching clinic at the Y and guest bartending at Jerseys. The former major leaguer talked about being the only left-hander on the 84 Cubs as well as some other experiences in professional baseball. We got the chance to talk with him on the WGIL Morning News.
