Illinoisans to Mark 13th Anniversary of 9/11

WGIL Newsroom 101

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Events were planned Thursday across Illinois to mark the thirteenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

Members of the College Republicans at Bradley University in Peoria planned to put up about 3,000 flags in memory of the victims in front of Bradley Hall. The flags are to remain through Friday.

Gov. Pat Quinn was to unveil a “Portraits of a Soldier” exhibit at the University of Illinois-Chicago campus, his office said. His challenger in the governor’s race, GOP candidate Bruce Rauner, planned to attend a ceremony in the morning at Lockport City Hall, his campaign said.

Two 9/11 survivors were to attend a ceremony at the Union League Club in downtown Chicago. And municipalities planned their own observances in places like Evanston and Naperville.

In Galesburg, a ceremony will be held at the Galesburg VFW post starting at 9:11am.  Tell us your memories of 9/11 HERE.
