County Reconsiders Sales Tax Referendum for November

Knox County SealVoters may have voted against a public safety sales tax that would operate and upgrade 911 services in Knox County.  The financial picture, however, has not changed. During last night’s Knox County Finance Committee meeting, members discussed the possibility of trying the tax again during November’s General Election.

Library Board Creates New Fund for Library Construction

Galesburg Public LibraryThe Galesburg Library Board of Trustees held a special meeting Wednesday in a effort to create a new revenue fund and transfer money into that fund.

At this time the state of Illinois does not have any money set aside for library construction grants, but the Library Board of Trustees is still working to make sure when money becomes available they’ll be ready.

Voters Largely Reject Tax Increase Proposals

If a tax increase of any sort was on the ballot in yesterday’s primary election, it more than likely was rejected.

Voters in Knox County said “no” to a quarter-percent sales tax increase for public safety purposes by about a three-to-one margin. The proceeds would have helped pay for the 911 system in the county according to Sheriff David Clague — he says the system desperately needs upgrades. As it stands now, Clague says he doesn’t know if the 911 system will continue to operate as-is.

Frese Secures Republican Nomination for 94th District State Representative

voteVoters in the 94th Illinois House District made it clear who they want to see representing them in the 2014 General election.

Randy Frese, a former Adams County Circuit Clerk, won the Republican Party’s nomination for the open 94th District State Representative seat. While voters largely picked Frese, Warren County voters largely preferred opponent the hometown guy — Marshall Schrader.
