High school regionals continue today for the area small-school baseball and softball teams. In baseball, the Knoxville Blue Bullets are challenging the top-seed at the Farmington Regional, as they play the Brimfield/Elmwood Indians. In other class 2A play, Monmouth-Roseville is also up against a #1 seed in Aledo, as they play the Sherrard Tigers. In class 1A action at Lewistown, the North Fulton Wildcats are playing top-seeded rival South Fulton.

The softball schedule for today shows Galva/Williamsfield up against the host United Red Storm in a class 1A semifinal. The winner of that contest plays Abingdon-Avon for the title, after the Tornados upset top-seed West Central 3-to-2 yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile in Toulon, the ROWVA Tigers will try to keep their season alive when they battle second-seeded Princeville.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks baseball team will swing back into action tomorrow, as they play host to Moline. The Streaks girls soccer team is still alive after winning their regional semifinal last night over Limestone 2-to-1. Goals by Megan Ladner and Lyric Harris powered the girls to the victory. They will play Dunlap in Friday night’s regional championship, after the Eagles flew past Peoria Manual 8-0.

Tanney

Former Monmouth College quarterback Alex Tanney’s journey through the NFL has landed him in Tampa Bay, just a week after being released by the Cleveland Browns. Tanney reportedly inked a deal yesterday after working out with the team, which is coached by former Chicago Bears’ boss Lovie Smith.

The class 1A and 2A regional baseball tournaments in the area are taking the day off. Semifinals will be played either tomorrow or Thursday, depending on the location. Knoxville stayed alive yesterday with a 1-0 win over Annawan/Wethersfield. Pitcher Cody Marquith fired a two-hitter and struck out eleven in posting the shutout win. Monmouth-Roseville also got a great pitching performance from Dalton Hottle, who mowed down the Orion Chargers in a 4-1 Titans victory. Hottle also had a pair of hits, including a home run.

Softball
