A number of area baseball and softball games were cancelled yesterday due to wet field conditions after days of rain, but the weather didn’t stop the Galesburg High School Softball team from dominating Pekin.
Weather continues to be a problem this spring season for local high school sports. A number of games were called off for yesterday and today due to wet fields.
A few baseball and softball games dot the area athletic schedule for today. Typically Wednesday is a light day for high school contests, and it’s a good thing with many of the area ball diamonds still being very wet from rains earlier in the week.
The Quad City River Bandits baseball team has won six straight games, as the Houston Astros Class A Minor League affiliate seeks to repeat as the Midwest League champions. Former Moline High School standout Thomas Lindauer has helped to spark the team in recent weeks both on offense and defense.
The Galesburg Silver Streaks finished in a 3-way tie for first place in the Western Big-6 Conference, after they swept United Township on Saturday by scores of 2-0 and 6-5. Galesburg finished the 10-game conference schedule with a mark of 6-4, as did Rock Island Alleman and Moline.

The high school softball schedule for today shows the Galesburg Silver Streaks traveling to Rockridge. The Streaks are coming off of an 8-3 at Geneseo yesterday. The A-Town Tornados also are in action today at Bushnell-Prairie City.
The Galesburg High School sports calendar for today shows the Silver Streaks varsity and J.V. teams are in Geneseo to play the Maple Leafs.
