LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) _ In addition to signing linebacker Pernell McPhee, the Chicago Bears have said that Jay Cutler will be their quarterback going into the 2015 season.
Bears general manager Ryan Pace said the team did not attempt to trade Cutler. Pace and coach John Fox analyzed Cutler’s play going back to his rookie season before determining he should be their quarterback for next season.
McPhee is a linebacker who was a backup with Baltimore and had 7 1/2 sacks last season. The Bears are short on linebackers and linemen for a 3-4 scheme because they have played a 4-3, and McPhee is viewed as an outside rush threat.
