Administration urging Council to reject lone bid for Churchill property

Galesburg City Council on Monday night can decide on accepting or rejecting the lone bid that was received for the Churchill Junior High building.

Administration is recommending that Council reject the bid for $100 from the Wynkoop Group.

Council documents say there are a few reasons for the recommendation.

They say the proposal does little to recoup the $90,000 in maintenance costs the city has spent, the plan is light on details and the bidder says they have few financial resources to devote to the project.

The Wynkoop Group is proposing creating a “maker space, community creative hub, business incubator.”

Monday’s agenda note the city reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids, and says rejecting this plan “will allow the City an opportunity to seek a more economically feasible alternative.”

The building’s future has been unclear ever since Aldermen changed course on developing the building as a community center.
