A Galesburg man sits in the Knox County Jail as he awaits his preliminary hearing on attempted murder and nearly a dozen gun charges.
18-year-old Kenyon N. Patterson made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on Friday afternoon where his bond was set at $250,000 by Judge Paul Mangieri.
Patterson charges stem from two separate cases, with many of the charges repeating. He faces ten counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, for not having a FOID card, no concealed carry permit, and for being under the age of 21.
The most severe charges he faces are a Class 1 count Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Class X Attempted Murder. If convicted, the Class X charge could result in Patterson being sentenced to up to 30 years in the Department of Corrections.
According to Galesburg Police, Patterson was identified through a photo lineup as the shooter in a Thursday morning case of shots fired in the area of East North Street.
Reports indicate that a man was being intimidated by two individuals. The complainant told officers that at least three shots were fired towards him and his residence from one of the two individuals, who were on the street. The other individual was identified as 18-year-old Sonjay A. Mabry.
Officers, responding to the scene at around 10:32, found three bullet holes in the metal siding of the house.
Mabry, Patterson, and a third individual were arrested later in the day after a separate disturbance involving a firearm was reported to GPD.
Officers responded to the area of Oak Street and Grand Avenue at around 2:30 where 22-year-old Kendrick D. Talbert, Patterson, and Mabry were apprehended. The gun, a .22 caliber pistol, was found wrapped in a red t-shirt that was laying below a bush in a back yard that Patterson and Talbot were seen running through.
A shirtless Mabry was believed to have had possession of the gun at the time the complaint was made, as witnesses told police they had seen Mabry wearing a redshirt prior to his arrest. It’s believed he handed the gun off to the others before they attempted to make their escape.
Mabry and Talbot are charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 3 Felony.
All three will be back in court on Monday, June 3rd.
