Fresh off of finalizing the fiscal year 2017 budget last month, the Knoxville City Council got together last night to talk of appropriations for the 2018 budget.
Mayor Dennis Maurer was looking for recommendations for changes in appropriations, based on similar numbers to the last fiscal years budget.

Alderman Toby Myers, who heads the Police committee made a recommendation to boost police salaries for the city.

Myers fine-tuned the suggestion by splitting the $10,000 and adding $7,000 to the salaries and $3,000 to the Federal Insurance Contributions Act tax fund.

The appropriations will now be amended and then displayed publicly before being approved at the next board meeting.

The council also approved a request to close down main street for the homecoming parade for Knoxville High School in the coming school year.
