Cahokia Mounds hosts Native American cultural event

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in southwest Illinois is hosting two days of cultural presentations by Native Americans.Native American artists, storytellers and dancers will display clothing, demonstrate crafts and discuss customs and beliefs on Sept. 10 and 11 at the site’s Interpretive Center.

The event is sponsored by the American Indian Educational Resources of St. Louis.

Cahokia Mounds is eight miles from downtown St. Louis in Collinsville, Illinois.

The site is home to the largest Native American earthworks north of Mexico. It was the location of a large city of thousands of residents from the Mississippian culture, which flourished 1,000 years ago in the Midwest and South.
