As the Western Illinois Animal Rescue works to complete it’s new permanent home, it’s also working on permanent homes for cats.
WIAR is temporarily working out of a building at 300 West Harlem in Monmouth – the new shelter, adjacent to the temporary one, has walls and underground plumbing completed, but is waiting a City water connection.
Western Illinois Animal Rescue President Dan Porter tells the Monmouth Review Atlas that interior work still needs done, it will cost WIAR $4,000 to connect a water line to the city’s water supply.
To help raise funds for construction, WIAR is continuing a bake sale fundraiser at Shopko Sunday, December 10th.
On Saturday, December 16th, WIAR is hosting an “adopt-a-thon” at Farm King in Monmouth from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
With the shelter’s growing number of cats in need of homes, the adopt-a-thon is being sponsored by U.S. Cellular. Half of the cost to adopt a cat will be paid for by U.S. Cellular for the first 12 cats adopted.
The cats range of 5 months old to 2 year old – and all are spayed, neutered, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on vaccines.
Porter tells the newspaper that about a half dozen cats will be present at Farm King – but more are available at the temporary shelter. The cost to adopt a cat is $40.
