Congresswoman Cheri Bustos Brews at Iron Spike for “Cheri on Shift”

Cheri on Shift May 2015A local congresswoman gave beer brewing a try for today’s event “Cheri on Shift”.Congresswoman Cheri Bustos made a visit this morning to Iron Spike in Galesburg as part of an effort to support local businesses.

Bustos has been traveling around the district working shifts at local businesses, and this is not her first stop in Galesburg.

Bustos tells WGIL that she has worked several different positions during her “Cheri on Shift” series, such as forklift operation.

“I am now a certified forklift driver,” says Bustos. “I went to a Carp processing plant. I made a mistake wearing sandals when I went to the Carp processing plant, it’s not good attire for when you’ve got watery fish juice all around. I’ve been a UPS package deliverer. I’ve delivered mail right here in Galesburg and rode around with a letter carrier.”

Bustos says this is her first stop at a brewery, but won’t be her last. Her next stop will be at the Bent River Brewing Company in Rock Island tomorrow morning.

The “Cheri on Shift” outreach series coincides with her “Supermarket Saturdays” event, where she meets with district residents to hear what they have to say.
