County 10 bridge to close for 6 to 7 months for repairs. Here’s what you need to know

The Knox County 10 bridge over the BNSF rail yard south of Galesburg will be closed for repairs for six to seven months starting Monday, March. 6. It is anticipated that the closure will be in place for approximately six to seven months. A signed detour route will be posted during the closure. The detour route will be South Henderson Street, Third/Fourth Street and South Seminary Seminary Street.

In July, WGIL reported that a state agency will be reimbursing Knox County a significant amount of money for the rehabilitation project. Last June, the Illinois Commerce Commission authorized the use of $2.5M from the Multi-Modal Transportation Bond Fund, a part of Governor JB Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois Capital Bill, to assist with the project.

The Knox County Highway Department will perform heavy rehab work on the County 10 bridge that carries traffic over the BNSF rail yard and tracks. There will be no structural footprint changes to the bridge.

Brandt Construction, Milan, will be completing the $5,031,097 bridge rehabilitation project.

The bridge was constructed in 1985.
