Craft beer competition to celebrate Illinois bicentennial

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois State Fair will feature a craft beer competition this weekend to celebrate the state’s upcoming bicentennial.

Visitors will be able to celebrate the 2018 bicentennial with an “Illinois Made” product by naming an official craft beer.

The competition will run through Sunday in Happy Hollow inside Gate 1.

Heidi Brown-McCreery is director of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and a bicentennial commissioner. She says the contest is “a fitting tribute to the No. 1 industry in the state.”

At least 18 craft brewers from Metropolis to Chicago and Rock Island to Normal have accepted invitations to participate.

It’s sponsored by the Governor’s Office of the Illinois Bicentennial, the Illinois Department of Agriculture , the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild and the Associated Beer Distributors of Illinois .
