District 202 Administration Starts Budgeting as School Year Ends

Knoxville School District LogoAs the school year comes to an end, the District 202 Administration is working to prepare for next year.Superintendent Steve Wilder says budgeting becomes challenging when they get “conflicting information” from legislatures about the funding they will receive.

Wilder tells the WGIL Morning News that it’s difficult to begin a budget for next year when the state hasn’t confirmed budget numbers yet.

“It’s so challenging, the state budget timeline is different than the school budget timeline,” says Wilder. “Right now, we’re all wanting to start to put hard numbers together and give the Board of Education a little bit of information, so that over the summer we can start to present tentative budgets and finalize things in September. Really as the budget process plays out, and just drags out here in the spring, it just makes it all the more difficult.”

Wilder says this will be the first year in his time as Superintendent that the district will end up with a deficit year.

Wilder says they will continue to look for ways to cut costs, but they are just about as efficient as can be.
